Musicology Annotation << Back Nina Valentinovna Romanova (1894–1970) and Her Pedagogical Legacy Cherkasova Zoya The article highlights the activities of music teacher Nina Valentinovna Romanova, refl ects and characterizes the processes of evolution in professional musical and theatrical education, at the beginning and throughout the twentieth century in Russia. New trends in the art world of the early twentieth century led to the emergence of a musical discipline, which in different historical periods was called "rhythmic gymnastics", "rhythmoplasty", "rhythmics". The idea of creating this subject belongs to the professor of the Geneva Conservatory E. Jacques-Dalcroze, who created in 1911 Institute of Music and Rhythm. Nina Valentinovna Romanova became one of the fi rst teachers who began to practice the E. Jacques-Dalcroze method in Russia. Of considerable interest are the writings of N.V. Romanova, illustrating her teaching methods in the rhythmic discipline, which allowed students to gain extensive musical knowledge and practical experience in concert and artistic activities. The work of N.V. Romanova was highly appreciated by her students, many of whom later became People's Artists of the USSR and the RSFSR. Since previously the unique pedagogical activity of N.V. Romanova, as well as her name, were only briefly and occasionally mentioned in scientific research, this article will fi ll in the gaps of historical musicology and will serve as a contribution to Russian musicology.
