Modern Performing Technique
and Composition in «Whisper of the Phoenix»
for Solo Violin by A. Khubeyev |
Makina Anna
The ability of birds to produce a variety of sounds explains the attention and long-standing interest of composers in this area as a world of
sounds. In the second half of the twentieth century, an innovative approach to the use of performing techniques on various musical instruments
was observed, associated, in particular, with sound imitation. The composition of the young Russian composer discussed in the article is an
example of an expanded technique of violin playing, aimed at onomatopoeia of birdsong. The peculiarities of the violin composition lie in the choice
of expressive means of composition: rhythm, dynamics, texture. The originality of the rhythmic organization is represented by a constant violation
of uniformity by irregular groupings or syncopations. The main dynamic shades are aimed at creating a muted sonority, corresponding to the idea
of the composition - a whisper. The musical fabric is formed by combining multifunctional layers: coloristic elements (glissando, piziccatto) and
rhythmic series.
Keywords: A. Khubeyev, noise, sonorics, ametricity, regularity, irregularity, unconventional playing techniques.
