Musicology Annotation << Back S.S. Prokofi ev’s Piano Cycle “Sarcasms” in the Mirror of Modern Performing Solutions Shi Zhishen In this article, Prokofi ev's piano cycle Sarcasms is reviewed for the fi rst time through the prism of two distinctly contrasting pianistic interpretations. Frederic Chiu and Daniil Trifonov, both well-known contemporary pianists with a characteristic piano style, are chosen as the authors of the performance decisions. The sphere of the musical grotesque serves as the particular space in which a dialog of opposing points of view takes place. Individual work with it unites the composer's authorial searches, the different facets of the pianists' performing talent and their multifaceted perception of the picture of the modern world.
