Khudozhnikova The scientifi c work of musicians (singers and musicians) is often associated with translations. The translation is not entirely consistent with the original, distorts the meaning and cannot be fully useful in research activities. Comparisons published translation of one of the most important treatises of the XVIII century «Versuch einer Anweisung die Flöte traversiere zu spielen» by J. J. Quantz identifi ed a number of diffi culties faced by translators. Historical periods in which was written a treatise and made a modern translation, are different. For three centuries, changes have occurred in the style of the language and the system of musical terms and concepts. The author of this article was the fi rst to make a full Russian translation of this treatise J. J. Quantz. The real work is devoted to analysis of relevant published translations of the historic original. Keywords: Translation of musical treatises, J. J.
