The «Rational Concept» as Method of Thinking in French Baroque Organ Art |
Marina N. Tchebourkina
The «Rational concept», based on the ideas of «method» and «order», is one of the most important French Baroque categories. Formulated by René Descartes in his «Discourse on the Method» (1637), it proves to be initial point of «Reason» and «Enlightenment» ideas in France during the 17th and 18th centuries.
This article, which is the second one in the cycle about fundamental categories of French Baroque organ, is devoted to analysis of Descartes’ conception, evolution of rationalism in the 18th century and revelation of its principles in French organ art.
