Musicology Annotation << Back Previously Unaccounted Type of Russian Song Polyphony Mikhail A. Lobanov The paper is concerned with a certain type of polyphony texture in songs from Volga and Ural regions. The leading role and the dense sound tissue are observed in upper voices, the other part is sung an octave lower and doubles the low vocal part of the upper level. It never sounds in solo beginnings. The second feature of this polyphony type is an obligatory timbre contrast between both voice levels. Key words: folklore, vocal polyphony, Ural, Volga region, Nizhny Novgorod.
