Musicology Annotation << Back Music Should Bring Spiritual Light: on the 70th Anniversary of Composer Lilia Rodionova Ostroumova Natalia This article (interview) examines the distinctive features of L.V. Rodionova's compositional style, particularly the principles of theme formation using the principle of variation, rooted in the internal structure of ancient folklore, not only Slavic but also the authentic traditions of Eastern countries. L.V. Rodionova successfully combines variation in her music with various modern techniques, such as minimalism, polytonality, dodecaphony, sonoristics, and layered polyphony. Using the Fourth Symphony and the Symphony for Prepared Piano as examples, the composer reveals the specifics of form formation and fi gurative symbolism. The composer also discusses the specifics of metrorhythm using examples of large-scale forms, particularly in the second movement of the Piano Sonata, and demonstrates the principles of applying "harmonic fields" in largescale form and extended modal harmony in the chorus "Poems in April" from the cycle "Three Poems by I.
