The Nineteenth Symphony for Wind
Orchestra by Nikolai Myaskovsky |
Skhaplok Galina
The article is devoted to the Nineteenth Symphony by Nikolai Myaskovsky, the fi rst Russian symphony composed specifically for a brass
band (1939). This work stands at the level of the highest achievements in the fi eld of military brass music of the twentieth century: it is unique in
its depth, dramatic intent and expressive musical language. In addition, the composition is of fundamental importance for clarifying the question of
the possibility of translating the symphony genre into music for a brass band.
The study highlights the history of the creation of the symphony and the specifics of the work being analyzed, provides a consistent structural
and comprehensive analysis of the composition, and thoroughly identifies significant ideas in terms of considering the musical form of the symphony.
The topic of the article is urgent because the appeal to the symphonic heritage of N. Myaskovsky, already by virtue of his artistic perfection, is
eternally relevant for both researchers and performing musicians.
