Musicology Annotation << Back "The Sound Texture of a Feature Film": from the Experience of M.M. Ippolitov-Ivanov Romashchuk Inna Several overlapping topics came to the attention of the author of this article: the unexplored legacy of M.M. Ippolitov-Ivanov in the fi eld of music in cinema, the composer's forgotten musical manuscript for V. Goncharov's drama "Ermak Timofeevich", as an indirect characteristic of the unsaved score for the fi lm "Volga and Siberia" ("Ermak Timofeevich – the Conqueror of Siberia"); typescript the script of the fi lm "Kara-Bugaz" by K. Paustovsky and handwritten materials of Ippolitov-Ivanov's music for this fi lm. Appeal to the archive of M.M. Ippolitova-Ivanov made it possible to study the primary sources that remained in the history of cinema as the fi rst serious experiments in creating music in artistic sound fi lms. Reception as a form of using the properties of opera, cantata-oratorio, and symphonic genres in the work of Ippolitov-Ivanov on fi lm music and the results of this work are shown by concrete examples. It turned out to be important to consider the features of the composer and writer's style in the "mirror" of one work ("Kara–Bugaz"), to show their common attitudes, to note the organic connection with the traditions of Russian culture and new artistic ideas of modern reality. The leitmotif of the work was the study of fi lm music itself, which the composer considered "the sound texture of a feature fi lm". Keywords: M. Ippolitov-Ivanov, K.
