«Tobacco Captain» A.A. Eichenwald: Lost Music Comedy |
Lazanchina Anna V.
Musical comedy «Tobacco Captain» by A.A. Eichenwald belongs to the «forgotten» pages of Russian music of the twentieth century. The play, staged in 1942 on the stage of the Kuibyshev / Samara Theater based on the play by N.A. Aduev, was, according to contemporaries, the most striking and life-affirming performance of the war years. It remained in the repertoire for six seasons and was performed over 500 times. In the 1950s, A. Eichenwald’s «Tobacco Captain» was performed in many musical theaters in different cities: Leningrad, Gorky, Stalingrad, Saratov, Omsk, Ivanovo. Currently, this name does not appear on theatrical posters; the clavier and score of the work are still unpublished. The article attempts to draw attention to an essay that belongs to the best examples of the genre, which can still arouse public interest today.
