Musicology Annotation << Back Yu. Kasparov in the light of B. Asafiev’s theory ("Something strange out of the cage") Kholopova Valentina N. Yuriy Kasparov (b. 1955) is a well-known Russian composer of the avant-garde direction, performed more in the West than in Russia. From domestic musicologists wrote about it P.Pospelov, N. Travina, Yu. Peretokina, L. Dyachkova, I. Severina. But among the works about him, the most detailed is his own book "...And I am a composer!" (2014), roll call with the work of A. Honegger "I am a composer". Kasparov formulates an important feature of the musical language of modern composers, which is the opposite of the classical-romantic settings: the system-forming element is not the sound height, but the timbre-texture. It also marks a rethinking of the nature of musical rhythm. His sextet "Something strange out of the cage" is taken for consideration in the article to the 100th anniversary of D. Cage’s birth, 2012, with a touch of extravagance. Its intonationality is such that it can be analyzed on the basis of B. Asafiev’s intonation theory, refracted by the author of these lines in the form of a pentad of intonations: emotional, pictorial, genre, stylistic, compositional. The unifying factor of both music and theory is the tradition of Russian music. And the originality of the selected work testifies to the individuality of the style of this composer.
