Two compositions of A. Part: "The Cantus of Memory B.Britten" and "De profundis"
Petruseva Nadezhda A., Kuznetsov Andrey S.

The relevance and novelty of the study, devoted to the two opuses of Arvo Augustovich Part – the instrumental composition "Cantus in memory of Benjamin Britten" (1977) and the choral composition "De profundis" (1980) – is determined by an attempt to show the main substantive and compositional-technical aspects of these works in the context of spiritual and epitaphial works of the twentieth century. The complex approach is used as a combination of comparative-historical, elements of textual-linguistic (analysis of the text of the Psalm "De profundis") and structuralmusical methods. In A. Part's "Cantus in memory of B. Britten", intended along with the majority of spiritual and epitaph works of the twentieth century for concert performance, the features of the application and functioning of several compositional methods are considered: the tintinnabuli technique, the modal technique of dissonant diatonic, proportional Canon and free variation (arises as a result of the asynchronous transition of T-voices to M-voices for each of the orchestra's parts). «De profundis» shows the development of the choir traditions of the Middle Ages (Stimmtausch), the interpretation of 129 psalms in the musical-historical and semantic-semiotic aspects, the interaction of different compositional methods with the original tintinnabuli technique of A. Part, the serial aspect of the composition, which is manifested not only in working with parameters of dynamics, registration and density, but also in a systematically diverse sequence of T- and M-voices. The principles of symmetry (at all levels of form) and the golden ratio are considered (the culmination of “De profundis” falls precisely on the last quarter of the opus).
Keywords: A. Part, "Cantus of memory of B. Britten", "De profundis", epitaph tradition, tintinnabuli technique, dissonant diatonic, proportional Canon, Stimmtausch, interpretation of symmetry, seriality.
