Ethno-cultural interaction in the field of pastoral musical traditions of Estonians and Swedes
Kalaberda Anna V.

The article deals with ethno-cultural interaction in the field of pastoral musical traditions of Estonians and Swedes from the standpoint of the original ethnic area. The geographical places of residence of the Swedes in the Finno-Ugric territories (Estonia and Finland) have been stable for a long period of history. In particular, the coast of Estonia, where as a result of contacts between Finno-Ugric and Scandinavian countries formed a regional community with common cultural traits and identity. The adjacent settlement and direct contacts of the mentioned ethnic groups determined considerable similarity in different areas of traditional culture. Musical pastoral traditions are indicative, because they represent a complex that includes song and instrumental genres; music associated with the labor process, and purely aesthetic. Here the typological relationship is found both at the level of a set of musical instruments, morphology, ergology, and genres, their functions and methods of formation. Noting the relationship between instrumental and song pastoral traditions, as well as taking into account the presence of a single intonation complex within individual pasture farms, these interactions should be considered more broadly. The musical traditions of the Finno-Ugric and Scandinavian countries were not isolated: they not only touched, interacted, but were reinterpreted and transformed, integrating into a different cultural context, contributing to the formation of the original features of traditional musical cultures of ethnic groups and cultural community, United by the Baltic sea.
Keywords: Estonians, Swedes, ethno-cultural interactions, regional community, pastoral musical traditions, fabodkulla, kulning, vallat, helletused, hails, traditional shepherd's aerophones, typological kinship.
