Works for piano by Cornelius Cardew in the light of creative searches of the composer |
Koposova Irina V.
Cornelius Cardew (1936–1981) – one of the leading representatives of the latest British music – has a distinctive style evolution. He began his career as an adherent of the second avant-garde and finished his works, which were intended for a wide audience and were inspired by socialist ideas. The article deals with the search for Cardew on the example of piano compositions (for a solo instrument and for a piano duet), which were created from the late 1950s to the early 1980s. The analysis of these works allowed to reveal the range of creative ideas that worried the British author in different years, to discuss the features of the implementation of these ideas, as well as to make general conclusions about the style of Cardew.
