Musicology Annotation << Back Valeriy Pyankov. Sri Chinmoy. Music of the heart Galina A. Skhaplok This article is the fi rst study in the Russian musicology dedicated to the famous Russian composer, Professor of composition and instrumentation of «Russian Gnesin’s Academy of Music», Valery Piankov (1940 date of birth). Brief composer’s biography, key compositions and the most important area of V. Piankov's creativity - choral music are represented in the given paper. «Spiritual hymns of Sri Chinmoy» op. 51, ten arrangements for mixed choir a'capella are the subject of the analysis. This choral cycle reflects the composer's creative search for spiritual perfection of human nature, its inner harmony (God). As a primary source for arrangements the composer uses meditative one-voice melodies of the preacher Sri Chinmoy from Bengal that is an additional interest for the study. The aim of the research is to reveal the artistic and aesthetic installations of Valery Piankov, to identify the characteristic features of his choral writing on the example of the analysis of the selected choral cycle.
