Musicology Annotation << Back Mark Andre. The piece "durch" for soprano saxophone, piano and percussion: analysis of form-making and development strategies Yessayan Rachia (Hrachya) The relevance and scientific novelty of the study are determined by the fact that this text is the fi rst publication with an analysis of Mark Andre's composition as the main topic. The article analyzes the form constructing strategies and artistic means of the Franco-German composer, observes the connection with the work of predecessors and builds a context regarding the general development of Western European music. The hypothesis of the scientifi c research is to recognize the creative line of the composer Mark Andre as one of the directions of Western European music’s organic development, as well as a particular example of the French and German composition schools’ synthesis. The purpose of the study is to identify the methods of form-building, compositional techniques as well as ethical and aesthetic foundations that Mark Andre focuses on as an author. The article provides a consistent review of the piece and the tools used by the author, which are the basis for the hypothesis. As a result, it is possible to identify and to build several fundamental principles that contribute to the achievement of the set artistic goal. The analysis observes the hermeneutics of Andre's music, as well as the role of the worldview and his predecessors’ work in shaping the author's aesthetics. In addition to M. Andre himself, the article pays special attention to representatives of the ars nova and ars subtilior schools, J. Grisey and H. Lachenmann, C. Ives, whose works are also of interest paying the attention to the compositional techniques there used.
