Musicology Annotation << Back A Violin Journey from St. Petersburg to Moscow: L. Auer – S. Korguev – A. Yampolsky – L. Kogan (to the 100th Anniversary of the Birth of L.B. Kogan) Safonova Elena The relevance of the study and its scientifi c novelty are determined by the intention to analyze the «pedagogical pedigree» of the great Russian violinist Leonid Borisovich Kogan, whose birth will be 100 years old in November 2024. Such studies have not been conducted to date. The main materials for the article were sound recordings, methodological works, press publications, memories of students and contemporaries related to the four musicians. The sequence of their names refl ected the path from the St. Petersburg to the Moscow violin school - from Leopold Auer to Leonid Kogan. The research hypothesis is to substantiate the factors that create the line of continuity of the violin tradition. Various facets of professional creativity are shown; Using the example of a comparison of interpretations of plays by P. Tchaikovsky and J. Brahms by Auer and Kogan, features are identifi ed that refl ect the evolution of the performing style. It is assumed that the decisive factor in Yampolsky’s pedagogical success was the understanding of the individuality of each student (the most important feature of Auer’s teaching) combined with the search for new methods of work. The purpose of the study is to preserve for new generations the creative credo of the head of the Russian violin school, Leopold Auer, «A professional’s love for all the details of his art», comprehensively, extensively and highly artistically revealed by Leonid Kogan.
