Musicology Annotation << Back The Influence of Western Culture on Traditional Chinese Culture: History and Modernity Tang Jing In the field of culture, China enjoys the highest respect for its ancient traditions and values. The history of Chinese culture is very diverse. We are talking about art and science, the technique of painting and printing, architecture, pottery and sculpture. The rich cuisine of China is known all over the world. At the same time, the attention of modern researchers is riveted to the influence of Western culture on Chinese culture, and this influence can be traced very clearly in painting. At the same time, the systematization of various angles of this infl uence is singled out as a scientific problem. The purpose of the article is to consider issues related to the manifestation of the infl uence of Western culture on the traditional culture of China in the historical context and in modern realities. The analysis is carried out according to the principle of transition from the general (culture) to the particular (painting). Emphasis is placed on the comparison of Chinese and Western art (painting). In this regard, several comparison angles are indicated, such as: expressive and representative art; dynamic perspective vs. fixed perspective; minimalism versus full rendering or shading; negative or empty space vs canvas padding. In addition, within the framework of the article, examples of the creative activity of specific Chinese painters are given, in whose work and initiatives the influence of Western culture was reflected. As research methods, the author used the following: comparison, analysis of scientific publications, historical (retrospective) system logical.
