Musicology Annotation << Back A. Tsfasman’s Contribution to the Development of Soviet Jazz Ovchinnikov Pavel L. The article summarizes the results of a study of the work of the outstanding Soviet jazz composer and pianist Alexander Naumovich Tsfasman. Using the example of the analysis of cultural, sociological prerequisites and conditions for the institutionalization of jazz in the Soviet cultural space, the author identifi es the role of a jazzman in the formation of the Soviet jazz school, substantiates the significance of his merits in the development of instrumental jazz. The closeness of the creative positions of Gershwin and Tsfasman is revealed, manifested in the desire to combine the traditions of academic and jazz music, which gives their compositions catchiness, brightness and originality.
