Musicology Annotation << Back Cantata «Alexander Nevsky» is one of the S.S. Prokofiev’s Creation Stulova Galina P., Stulov Igor’ Kh. Prokofiev's cantata "Alexander Nevsky" was written on the eve of the Great Patriotic War, when the tension of the international situation was accompanied by a rise in the patriotic mood of society. The image of Alexander Nevsky was not chosen by chance. This is a courageous warrior, diplomat, statesman and the ancestor of the dynasty of the future Moscow tsars. Prokofiev's cantata was created from the music he had previously written for the film of the same name, which was released in 1938. It should be noted that the music of the cantata attracts with the brightness of its images. It embodied the best features of S. Prokofi ev's work: the versatility of style, the ability with equal force to embody Russian heroic images, heartfelt lyrics and mechanized images of enemies. Written on the verses of the poet V. Lugovsky, it tells about the great love of its creators for their homeland, about the selfless struggle against the cruel invaders and about the glorious victory over the enemy.
