Neoclassicism in French Organ Building of the 20th Century |

The article is devoted to the development of organ building in France in the 20th century. The author examines the issues of organ building in connection with the general aesthetic and stylistic trends in the musical art and musical science of that time. The origin of neoclassicism in the organ culture of France is described. Also it’s described, how this direction influenced the tastes and ideals in the construction of organs: how, in accordance with new trends, the instruments of the previous era, romanticism, were rebuilt and what were the main features of the new, neoclassical organs. The author of the article gives a general assessment of neoclassicism as an era in organ building, finds out the degree of the relevance of these organs in our time and outlines the prospects for their preservation, restoration and maintenance in the future.
