Musicology Annotation << Back Some Archival Data About Author’s Editions Muslim Magomayev of the Opera "Shah Ismail" Ismailzade Nurida J. The article studies archival data in connection with the productions of the opera "Shah Ismail" by the outstanding Azerbaijani composer Muslim Magomayev. The opera "Shah Ismail" was created by the composer in 1914–1916 based on the same name Azerbaijani medieval dastan on the libretto of the famous poet Mirza Abdul-Kadir Ismailzade. Initially based on mugham improvisations and folklore, the opera "Shah Ismail" has undergone several author's editions, which are covered in detail in this article. After the first production in 1919, M. Magomayev repeatedly improved his first opera for 15 years, bringing it as close as possible to classical forms. The author of the article points to the undeniable influence of the first operas of the founder of Azerbaijani classical music Uzeyir Hajibayli (in Soviet times, Hajibeyov), as well as the Russian composer school on the creation of this work. The article reveals some similarities between the operas "Shah Ismail" by M. Magomayev and "Prince Igor" by the remarkable Russian composer Alexander Porfiryevich Borodin, which manifested themselves both in the choice of a historical and heroic plot, the maximum commitment of the authors to the libretto, and in relying on the folk art of their (становление прошло путь??)peoples. In connection with the work on the article, the author conducted a study in the Azerbaijan State Archive of Literature and Arts named after Salman Mumtaz and the archival data she found were introduced into the scientific circulation of musicology for the fi rst time.
