Musicology Annotation << Back Principles of Ornamentation in Joseph Haydn’s Piano Sonatas and Features of Trill in Ludwig van Beethoven’s Piano Sonatas Bakirova Gunel M. The article reveals the peculiarities of ornamentation in piano music of the classical period, as well as characteristic features of melismatics in piano sonatas of the outstanding representatives of the Viennese classicism. J. Haydn and L.van Beethoven. For this purpose, first of all, the principles of ornamentation in classical piano music were determined. Since that period, terminology, types of embellishments have become standardized throughout Western European music. In the piano music of the classical era, there are no longer any tables of melisms, any instructions related to graces. Although there are no notes related to ornamentation in the music of the composers, the principles of their performance were refl ected in methode books of that time. On the performance of melisms of the classical era, the book by K.F.E. Bach acts as the main source. The article also analyzes the piano sonatas of I. Haydn, identifi es the features of melisms. In the composer’s sonatas, you can fi nd different types of graces, of which the trill is the most widely used. The melismas in L. van Beethoven’s piano sonatas marked a new stage, defi ning the future directions for the development of ornamentation. Melismas do not just decorate the melody; in the composer's music, ornamentation is one of the main means of conveying artistic content. In a study based on 32 piano sonatas by L. van Beethoven, the features of the trill were determined. The trill in the composer’s music is divided into two types – simple and complex. The latter is found in the later piano sonatas of the composer (starting with the 29th). Here the trill is presented in various forms and variations, as well as in double and triple interpretation. So, in the part of the right and left hands there are trills that sound in unison. At the same time, the sound of a trill is found in combination with various types of melismas and along with the melody (between the part for both hands and separately within the right hand), etc. Keywords: ornamentation, embellishments, types of melisms, trill, K.F.E.
