The Flute Music of Kaija Saariaho |
Skhaplok Galina A.
The article examines the work of the famous Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho. The object of the research is the most striking flute compositions that are firmly entrenched in the repertoire of performers, created from the beginning of the 1980s to the present; among them are «Laconisme de l’aile», «NoaNoa», «L'aile du Songe», dedicated to the flutist Camille Hoitenga and others. The researcher pays special attention to the characterization of various elements of Saariaho’s musical vocabulary, included in the category of non-traditional techniques of playing the flute. The analysis of selected compositions makes it possible to identify the content, genre and structural-semantic aspects, as well as the musical and expressive means used by Kaija Saariaho in the process of working on flute compositions. The author of the article refers to a practically unexplored topic in Russian musicology, which determines the relevance and scientific novelty of the research. The purpose of the work is to give an idea of K. Saariaho’s flute music, to reveal the characteristic properties and technical approaches, as well as artistic guidelines on which the composer relies when creating works for the flute.
