Musicology Annotation << Back Koshkareva N.V. Polyphonic Techniques in Choral Concerts «Russian Fairy Tale» and «Wreath to Alyabyev» by A. Nikolaev Koshkareva Natalya V. The article discusses the artistic principles and polyphonic techniques of choral writing by A. Nikolaev. As musical examples, concerts for the a cappella choir «Russian Fairy Tale» and «Wreath to Alyabyev» are given. They reflect many parameters of the composition, characteristic in general for the individual composer style of A. Nikolaev. In the works of A. Nikolaev, as well as many composers of the second half of the XX century, polyphony is one of the foundations of the style. In his choral concerts, polyphony not only expands ideas about the primordial polyphonic forms, but also penetrates deeper into the forms of the homophonic-harmonic warehouse, transforms them, affects expressive and semantic possibilities. In this perspective, an important parameter of compositional shaping becomes «facturoform» (D. Shulgin’s term). It is concluded that A. Nikolaev’s choral writing is characterized by a tendency to synthesize the principles of homophony and polyphony, which makes it possible to implement new ways of objective and full-fledged recreation of reality phenomena in a musical work, to combine the analyticity of polyphonic development with the dynamic capabilities of a homophonic-harmonic warehouse. The multidimensionality of the polyphonization of the musical fabric is manifested at the level of texture and shape of individual parts, as well as the architectonics of the cycle. Keywords: A.
