Musicology Annotation << Back N. Evreinov and operetta: the point of intersection Sviridovskaya Nina D. One of the main problems of the Russian musical theater of the early twentieth century is the change in genre priorities. The search for new forms and expressiveness leads to the fact that operetta with its lightness, dynamic of stage action, parody aesthetics combined with gentle lyrics and grotesque is of particular interest to directors. Bold experiments are demonstrated by K. Mardzhanov, V. Nemirovich-Danchenko, A. Tairov and N. Evreinov. The article deals with the musical comedy The Runaway by N. Evreinov, named by the author of the first Russian operetta. The forgotten composition, the materials of which are kept in the State Central Theater Museum named after A. Bakhrushin and the Russian State Archive of Literature and Arts, appears not only in the light of the director’s extraordinary stage ideas, but also in the context of the difficult history of the genre development in Russia.
