The conceptual role of finals in symphonic cycles by Russian composers of the 1920-s
Shmakova Olga V.

The relevance and scientifi c novelty of the research lies in the fact that it examines the symphonic cycles of Russian composers of the 1920s through the prism of the finale concepts. In this case, the performance turned out to be a turning point in the history of Russia, the content of the symphonies reflected complex and sometimes contradictory ideological attitudes. The hypothesis is that the final part emphasizes the general artistic idea of the cycle, which unfolds from part to part, ending with a culmination. As a result, «the idea of harmony between Man and the World», «the idea of disharmony between Man and the World», «the idea of harmony of the World» and complex variants of their implementation determine the concept of the cycle. The subject is the symphonic finale, its semantic dominant – Joy, Tragedy, Eternity. The object of the article is the symphonic cycles of N. Myaskovsky, S. Prokofi ev, D. Shostakovich, created in the 1920-s. In their works, which are signifi cant for this time, many facets of the relationship between Man and the World arise, and at the same time the musical and philosophical status of the symphony genre is preserved. In Western European culture, the symphony is almost «excluded» from the practice of composers of the French «six», novovens and other artistic trends. The aim of the study is to consider the problem of the final, which plays a conceptual role in the cycle. It is important to identify the ways of development of the symphony in the work of Russian composers from the perspective of the interaction of the invariant and new attitudes in art, including avantgarde ones. At the same time, in the studied symphonic cycles, there is a difference in approaches to structure, musical language, drama, and, as a result, to the conceptual solution of the finale that completes the entire cycle.
Keywords: symphonic cycle, symphonic finale, concept of Joy, concept of Tragedy, concept of Eternity, N. Myaskovsky, S. Prokofiev, D. Shostakovich.
