Buxheimer Orgelbuch: Interpretation Issues |
Kijowski Olga Yu.
The article is devoted to the problems of interpretation of organ music of the XV century on the example of the Buxheimer organ book (Buxheimer Orgelbuch). The Buxheimer Orgelbuch collection is a unique example of organ art from the middle of the 15th century, which includes all forms of organ music that existed at that time: instrumental compositions for secular songs (intabulation), free processions of liturgical songs (choral works), free instrumental pieces (preambles) and the manual on the art of voice and improvisation (Fundamentum organizandi). Since the recommendations on the performance of this music have not been preserved, many points related to its interpretation remain unclear to this day. The purpose of the study is to identify and clarify issues of interpretation of organ music of the 15th century. For this, some performance instructions are studied, which are preserved in treatises of the 15th–17th centuries, and based on an analysis of the structure of the instrument (organ) of the late 14th–early 15th centuries, described by M. Pretorius in the treatise Syntagma musicum, certain conclusions are drawn regarding the performance features.
