The content and features of the activities of the Scientific Council on the problems of the history of musical education are revealed, which were not previously the subject of scientific understanding. It is shown that this public scientific organization was created in 2010 on the initiative of a number of musical and pedagogical universities and scientific institutions of Russia. The purpose of the Council is to promote the development of scientific knowledge in the field of the history of musical education. The Council brings together scientists from various fields of humanitarian knowledge. The main form of his activity is conducting scientific sessions. The emphasis in their work is on the analysis of poorly studied problems of domestic and foreign musical education. These issues are being considered at an interdisciplinary level. The conclusion is made: the Scientific council has become an effective form of scientific communication, the result of its work is new scientific knowledge in the field of the history of general and professional musical education.
