Musicology Annotation << Back The Catalogization of Church-Chant Manuscripts: the Problems of Description of the Eparchial Collection of the State Historical Museum (GIM), Moscow Nora Al. Potemkina In this article the results of preliminary description of the church-chant manuscripts of the Joseph Volotskiy monastery (15th–17th centuries) are generalized. These manuscripts are collected in the Eparchial collection of State Historical Museum (GIM). The conclusion was made about the type of singing book in this monastery — encyclopedical type, encluding several parts — singing books. The main problem is put on — how to reflect the main parts of each manuscript in its catalogue name. The fragments of the preliminary catalogue are given in this article as an example of brief description of manuscripts.
